Community Nurses

The Community Nurses provide nursing care and advice to patients in their own homes. They liaise with hospitals and other specialised nurses and services such as Home Care, Social Services, The Macmillan Unit and Chiropody. They can arrange extra support for patients who require long-term care.

Health Visiting Team

Health Visitor

Our Health Visitor, Serena Coley, has worked in the NHS since qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in 1982. She worked as a Midwife prior to commencing her Health Visitor training at Southampton University in 1990. Serena has been at Littledown Surgery since 1994 and is responsible for working with families and children (from birth to 5 years of age).

She is involved with developmental surveillance (as per Healthy Child Programme) and offers confidential, research-based advice and support at the surgery, or in your own home. She is a member of the Southbourne locality Health Visitor Team that run the ‘well baby’ clinic and postnatal groups at Southbourne Childrens Centre.

Serena is able to refer you to other agencies and signpost you to services within the local community. Her role includes supporting families of children subject to a child protection plan, ‘children in need’ and ‘looked after’ children.

Community Nursery Nurse

Gaynor Flower is our Community Nursery Nurse and is trained in baby massage. She also offers advice and support around weaning your baby, sleep and behaviour management and toilet training your toddler.

Gaynor also helps out at the Under One’s group at Southbourne Childrens Centre.
